Yesterday marked the 53rd anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines. Entitled the “Trillion Peso March,” the protests targeted the corruption-ridden DPWH flood projects and the many other issues the Marcos Jr. administration has yet to solve, and shows little intention of addressing.
Thousands gathered at Luneta and along EDSA, using public spaces to express dissent and keep history alive. Roads that are usually filled with cars became spaces for people walking, marching, holding signs, and making their voices heard.
Moments like this remind us that our roads are more than just… well, roads… They are shared spaces where collective memory and civic action take place.
But it shouldn’t stop on September 21. Keep rallying. Keep protesting. Keep pushing back.
