If you’re looking for a small bike bag that’s just enough to hold your everyday carry (EDC), look no further than the Sack It Mini Kaban.

Sack It began making skateboard bags before expanding into bikepacking, bike touring, and bike commuting. The Kaban is a staple in its product lineup, coming in different colors and sizes.

The newest size in the lineup is the Sack It Mini Kaban. According to Nognog, Sack It’s owner and founder, the bag originated as a custom order for an electric kick scooter. He eventually adapted the design and began selling it on his own.

Specs of Sack It Mini Kaban

The Sack It Mini Kaban measures 8-inches by 5-inches by 6.5-inches, based on my measurement. The outside is made of X-Pac, while the interior is made of ripstop fabric. A plastic lining gives rigidity to the bag and keeps it in shape.

The bag is opened and closed using a single strap with a plastic buckle, along with a drawstring closure inside to prevent your stuff from falling out. On the side are two D-rings, where you can attach a shoulder strap for when you get off the bike.

The back has MOLLE webbing where you can attach a Velcro strap to secure the bag to the bike, whether at the handlebar, the saddle, or a rack.

Using it with an FCB

If your bicycle happens to be a folding bike, such as a Brompton or a Java Neo 3, the Mini Kaban is also available with an adapter for easy mounting on the bike’s headtube. The adapter is held in place by four screws, and it can be removed with a screwdriver.

Using the FCB mount with a folding bike has a couple of advantages. The weight is mounted lower, and it doesn’t turn with the handlebars. Plus, the bag doesn’t get in the way when folding the stem. Just make sure you wrap or protect valuable items, since they could get scratched by the exposed screws and nuts.

My personal experience with the Sack It Mini Kaban

During my time with the Sack It Mini Kaban, I was able to test the bag on full-size bikes as well as my Java Neo 3. The space is sufficient for my EDC (phone, wallet, keys, and power bank) as well as a basic repair kit (pump, tire levers, and inner tube).

However, if you plan on bringing other commuting essentials, such as extra clothes or a U-lock, you’ll need another bag, one much larger than the Sack It Mini Kaban. This is fine for a full-size bike because there are other storage options, such as a rear rack with panniers or a frame bag. But on a trifold, you don’t have a choice.

Finding the right use case

Finding the right use case for the Sack It Mini Kaban was a bit tricky because of its size. In my experience, it’s best for simple trips where you only need the bare minimum. These include going around Kapitolyo for food, coffee, or errands, or going out on rides where biking is the main activity, such as a picnic with Happy Pedal Project at the Balara Park.

Since I already have many other bike bags, I exclusively use the Sack It Mini Kaban on my trifold. Although the carrying capacity is the same regardless of the bike, the compact size complements a folding bike well. It’s better than having a folded bike and a huge basket with barely anything inside.

Should you get the Sack It Mini Kaban?

The Sack It Mini Kaban goes for P2,000, or P2,500 with the FCB adapter. It’s a great option if you only bring the basics when going out on rides, or if you want a small bag for your folding bike. However, for heavier-duty purposes, you might want to opt for a bigger bag like the regular Kaban.
